Monitor Flickering on and off

Last response: in Graphics & Displays

Hello TH,

I recently installed a new motherboard (and with it a new CPU, RAM and heatsink) and last night, after turning it off, I noticed the screen was flickering on and off.

It seemed like it was recieving a signal, turning on, then suddely turning back off; doings this over and over again.

Will this cause damage to the display (or maybe it's already damaged? lol)?

NOTE: The screen works fine when the computer is actually on.

System Specs:
i5 2500k (OC to 4.0ghz) w/ Corsair H100
Asus p8p67 deluxe
2x4GB GSkill 1600 DDR3 RAM
2x Nvidia 9800 GT (SLI)
750w PC Power and Cooling Silencer PSU
1TB Samsung HDD
350GB WD HDD
ASUS 24x CD/DVD Combo

No idea what monitor I have though :??:

PS: I hope this was in the right section. I didn't see one dedicated to monitors :S

First check your cable connections, make sure you don't have a loose or damaged connection. Was the screen flickering or was the monitor actually switching from ON to STANDBY and then ON again and repeat? Maybe test the monitor in another system to make sure your monitor isn't dying. Or try a different monitor with your setup.

Did you ever figure out the problem? I may know what's causing it. Sometime's graphics cards wont mesh with all the pins inside the slot, particularly the one's on the far end due to the card or pins being slightly bent. This in turn will cause your monitor to turn off and on randomly as i've ran into this issue a couple of times on fresh builds. Remove the card and inspect the pins on both the card and slot to make sure they are all in line and intact. Hope this helps.
