PSU -> 4 pin to 8 pin CPU adaptor -> 8 pin extension -> Mobo

why not just plug the 4pin to the extension and bypass the adapter?

so 4-pin to 8pin extension to mobo

The 4 to 8 pin adaptor does not run long enough to reach the mobo, and I cant plug a 4 pin into my motherboard and have it work.

Edit: Oh I see what your saying,

4 Pin -> 4 pin extension -> 4 pin to 8 pin adaptor -> mobo

instead of

4 pin -> 4 to 8 pin adaptor -> 8 pin extention

what case, motherboard, CPU, and PSU do you have?

a CPU 4-pin power plug should be able to power most stock CPUs

CPU: C2D e7300

Case: Zalman Z11+

Mobo: EVGA 680i SLI (Its finicky if an 8 pin isnt in it)

PSU: Viotek 550w

if you want my honest opinion, that PSU is nothing more then a paper weight. i would invest in a better unit rather then power extensions & adapters.

your set up in your initial post will work until your PSU calls it quits.

Not getting a new PSU yet, gunna save for a 750w for SLI/future system use PSU.

So,

PSU -> 4 to 8 pin -> 8 Pin extension -> Mobo?
