Is there anyway to install Windows XP Professional over XP Professional and to format at the same time? I always have to format, re-install Win98 and install XP from Windows 98. IS there an easier way? How do you use the XP start-up disk? Is it any different from the Win98 one?

You can do it in one step.
Just make sure that you got Boot from CD-ROM enabled in the BIOS, boot from the WinXP CD and follow the installation procedure. Choose new installation, even don't matter, you can go through Copy your CD on harddrive first for better reliability. Then you come to the Create/Delete Partition and Format options. Choose Delete partition(s) if you want, or just Format if you are happy with your existing partitions, and continue your installation.

If you're using the upgrade version, it should ask you to insert a CD from an older Windows version at some point during the installation - this is only for verification, however.
