Greetings,

Thought you folks might be able to help me with this.

My 6970 randomly cuts off with no real pattern. Sometimes gaming, sometimes at idle, in the most recent case (that I logged with GPU-Z) while idle and dling a game with steam.

All the numbers look normal before the crash

GPU temp 39C
Core clock 250mhz
memory clock 150mhz
fan speed 24%
fan rpm 1155
GPU 1 2 and 3 temps all 38-40 degrees C
dedicated memory usage 117mb
dynamic memory use 33mb
vddc - 12.31
vddci - 0.9
voltage 2 - 1.588
vddc in current 9.0
vddc current a 0.7

1 second later

core clock 0.4
gpu memory clock 3196.9 mhz
core temp -1
100% fan speed
fan rpm 0
GPU 1 2 and 3 temp 32767.5 degrees
voltages all 0.

Any clues? thanks for the help

I'll try again.

The issue started after upgrading to catalyst 12.00 I believe.

I wiped 12.00 with driver sweeper, then went back to 11.12
The problem persisted. I'll try a clean sweep and an upgrade back to 12.00

What do you mean by 'cut off'?? Is your PC still usable when this happens, are you able to browse open files, play movies etc.

Is your 6970 connected to 8+6pin power
What is the condition of your PSU?
What is your OS?
What MB?

The PC stays on, but the display dies completely and won't come back until I restart it. CPU fan keeps running, all my regular fans keep running, I just can't see anything. I hear the GPU's fan speed way up right before it goes off.

the PSU is roughly 4 months old. (as is the whole PC) It's a 750w Corsair
It is connected to 8+6 pin power
OS is Windows 7 64 Bit
MB is MSI P67A-G43, Core I5 2500k processor.

Just uninstalled the drivers, ran driver sweeper, and reinstalled Catalyst 12.1

Leaving it sit for a while with GPU-Z logging while some games DL.

I'll update with results.

Also the card is a Sapphire if that makes any difference
