See 2nd hand Carl Zeiss 50mm 1.4 in ebay as well as in Jessops next to my
flat...
Jessops sells it at 190pounds. I have a Canon 300D but have just got a kit
lense. Should I go for a 2nd hand Carl Zeiss or the famous cheap and
cheerful Canon 50mm 1.8 MKII?

The Carl Zeiss on ebay is made in Japan by Contax. Is there any difference
from those made in German?

Thanks for viewing and reply!!

Good choice but it's not going to work on your Canon...

Are you refering to the Carl Zeiss Jena ? Even that ... the image quality is
superb [not excellent :D ]

If you can live with the manual focussing , go for it. I've seen images from
the CZ 28mm paired with 20D . .and the quality are just breathtaking !
PS : you'll need a Novoflex adapter or those thing . .and they ain't cheap
:D

Erm... Why would you use a M42 adaptor to fit a Contax lens
to a Canon? Like the seller said, you need a Contax to EOS
adaptor, though I have no idea if such an adaptor is
available.

M42 is the old Pentax/Practica screw mount standard.

The Contax backfocus is 45.5mm, EOS is 44mm, the Contax mount is
smaller in diameter than the EOS mount and so a mount adapter should be
possible.

It's a long link, but it does show that Contax to EOS adapters are
available on eBay.

Looks like David's in luck then, as long as he buys one of
these rather than the M42 adaptor he was looking at ;-)
