Hi guys,
First of all, thank you for all the work you have done for reviewing the hardwares.
I have a home server running 24/7 (downloads + home entertainment) and it has a pentium 4 3.2 ghz prescott in it. Is there any tool I can use to analize the power consumption? Because I'm planning to buy a core 2 duo if this new cpu will lower the energy cost enough compared to the it costs.

Thank you in advance!

Sisoft Sandra gives an approximation of the power currently used by the CPU but I don't think it can do more (display other parts' consume or make graphs about it).

I would imagine that the savings are on the order of 15-20watts. If we take 20 as a best case scenario you'll be saving 1 unit (Kwh) of electricity every 50 hours, round it to 2 days.

So in a year you'll save about 175 units of electricity, one third of which might be on 'cheap rate' for over night usage. Assume that a unit costs about $0.10 / unit and you are looking at a saving of $17.

None of these figures are accurate, but they are probably close.

So no it probably isn't worth it...
