Hi,

I've just bought a 7210 from a friend who's moved to 3 but I'm a bit
clueless about it's features. I understand that Nokia have released the
"Nokia PC suite" software to enable interaction between the handset & a PC,
such as backing up the address book, creating logos & ringtones, uploading
Java games, etc. I've also seen USB lead & CD ROM sets available on eBay,
that are not compatible with Nokia's PC suite, but seem to offer equivalent
functionality, as well as hundreds of free Java games, logos, images, etc,
at a cheaper price than buying a cable from Nokia.

Can anyone give me advice about whether these things are value for money or
not, and if so recommend one, either from eBay or elsewhere? I'm not too
bothered about games, logos, etc, but they'd be quite nice to have for that
price. Otherwise, is there a recommended outlet to buy a standard Nokia USB
cable for a cheap price, as I've already downloaded the "PC suite".

Thanks, Jason.

Forget the cable approach. The cheap ones are generally absolute rubbish,
and the Nokia ones are stupidly expensive. Instead consider buying an IR
dongle (the MA-620 works well). As for the CD's, remember that the games
and much of the other content will be pirated, so let your conscience be the
guide.

Looks nice, will probably get one of these in preference.

Cheers, Jase.

Hi,

IR is good, but too slow to use it to surf on internet. and IR... you
have to move your phone very close to your phone in order to get them
connected.

I am selling data cables on ebay over 4000 pieces, most of the peoples
are using them very well. My account is:

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI. [...] ce=-1&rd=1

You can go to my website http://www.vavolo.com for more details about
the DKU-5 compatible data cables for your 7210 cell phones. i have a
$4 coupon for you, just enter 9016388333 while you checkout. Enjoy!

Can't agree with you on that one, IR transfer is easily fast enough for web
browsing even using GPRS.

Anything up to 12 inches is usually fine with 6 inches being about optimal.

Providing the cables work as they should (many DKU-5 clones don't work
properly with PC-Suite), it's a fair alternative, but is absolutely useless
if you change your phone to one that doesn't support the proprietry
pop-port.

What a steaming load. IR runs at 115k or 4MB dending on
implementation, and GPRS runs around 40-50k. IR is plenty fast for
internet use.

30cm. Since most IR for desktops are on cabled dongles, it's hardly a
hardship. One IR dongle on my PC allows me to connect three different
cellphones, two different PDAs and a digital camera with no stupid
overpriced proprietary cables cluttering my desk.

IR beats everything except bluetooth!

Hmmm... and you don't like IR. Go figure...

Take your spam elsewhere...

I definitely agree with all of the posts recommending infrared- and I
disagree with the poster commenting on infrared not being fast enough.
The speeds are the same between the infrared and DKU-5 cable.

I prefer infrared because it is more versatile- you can use the
connection for many more phones (and this is unlikely to change in the
future, whereas Nokia are already creating different pop port cables
for different phones). I use it for my phones and my PDA.

I disagree with the recommendation of the MA620 though- I purchased
one of these and had real issues with the drivers, and on a search on
whether I was the only one, I found many other similar stories. I got
a refund, and plumetted for the Actisys IR4000US. It is neat and looks
great (very small and silver), and its drivers are very easy to
install and worked first time for me on the same pC which had problems
with the MA620.

Actisys also give you a choice- they offer two types of USB port, a
serial port and various other types (internal?). I purchased mine from
http://www.logomanager.co.uk/php/cat.php?cat=infrared and they seem to
be selling 4 different options of infrared port between 25 and 35 UK
pounds. Worth every penny!

Also Actisys is certified to be compatible w/o drivers by the IR standards
group (cant remember the exact name).
