I am upgrading a friends old computer but they are in need of a video card.

It is for their kids who are under 12 years old. So gaming is not really that important.

These are there specs on their computer:

775Dual-880Pro
Pentium 4 3.0GHz
2GB Ram
Windows 7
Max resolution of 1280x1024 monitor
450W PSU

Their budget is $100, yea i know its low. Could anyone help in recommending a good video card? It does have a pci express slot which runs at x4 mode. Anything around quality of ATI HD 4670 is enough

All of the above suggestions are PCI-E 2.1 cards and they sometimes have issues with PCI-E 1.x slots which is surely what is in an ancient computer running a P4. The GT 430 is in the same performance area as the HD4670, PCI-E 2.0 and can be found pretty cheap, especially after rebate;

Alternately if the rebate doesn't matter to you here is an actual HD4670 for a bit less;

^ jyjjy is right how stupid of me not to realize how old that rig was when it was right in front of me, 12 years old da. Ya the 2.1 on the older rigs won't work. If that rig was getting bios upgrades all the time then Maybe.

I wouldn't take a chance on a 2.1 card. The GT 430 is a 2.0 card and it will work in the 1.0 slot and that will be big enough for the kids. I am really sorry I didn't catch that at first. I am glad jyjjy jump in.
