Making an upgrade. Good for gaming?

So I've finally decided to upgrade my CPU. The old Athlon II X2 Regor was really starting to show its age.

While browsing for a new CPU, I decided to just go ahead and replace my motherboard and get some more RAM while I was at it.

All I'm wondering is whether this will be a decent gaming rig. Obviously it won't be top of the line but I'm hoping it will still be pretty good.

Anyway, this is the CPU I decided to go with:

Motherboard:

And RAM:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... (Got 2 of these, so 8GB RAM total)

So basically my old setup is:

AMD Athlon II X2 Regor
Geforce GTS 450
4GB A-Data DDR2 800
ASRock A785GMH/128M

New setup will be:

AMD FX 6100
Geforce GTS 450
8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600
ASRock 770iCafe

FYI running on Windows 7 64-bit

This is still my first build that I've been working on for years. I don't have a whole lot of money so it's going slowly haha. I'm not sure if I should expect a substantial increase in performance or very slight.

Just curious as to what people's thoughts are :)

I've been using AMD CPU's for years and I've always been hesitant to switch to Intel but it looks like that time has finally come. Intel just seems to be outperforming AMD in recent years. That takes a lot for an AMD fanboy to admit haha. I';m getting really mixed information about the AMD FX 6100 though. Literally half the people say it's not very good for gaming and to go with the i5 2500k instead. However, the other half are saying that the FX 6100 is really awesome for OCing and can really scream when set up properly. I'm still torn...

Your right man. I was to till i got the amd 1100t. But i want you to think this way. What game will that 6100 fx not play that a intel can? Also when you get windows 8 that 6100 will be unlocked. The software is not out yet to unleash amd's hardware.

You're definitely right about that. I'm thinking it might be a risk, but I'm willing to take it, so go with the 6100 strictly for the future. If AMD really because THAT much more powerful on a Windows 8 system then I will be very pleased with my purchase.

I seen a benchmark a few months ago with the amd 8150 in windows 8 preview went right with a intel $1000. So thats why im saying future wise amd for the price. Hope i helped ya out.
