Battlefield 3 Gaming

Hey,

I was planning on upgrading my current CPU to be able to play battlefield 3 on ultra. My current processor is a phenom II x4 945T. I was planning on upgrading to a fx-4170 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106009

My Current specs are:

MB: ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
GPU: HIS Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX 12V 80 PLUS BRONZE
RAM: G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-8GAO

My biggest concern is if i will end up with enough Power for this. My second concern is if there may be any chance that the GPU may bottleneck the CPU or vice versa.

I Just want to play on ultra. Any Amd processor recommendations are welcome

No, not worth it. If you want to play on ultra, you'd need a better CPU+GPU.

A good one is the Phenom II X6 1100T, BF3 likes multiple cores.

Is the GPU good for playing on ultra at least?
I also heard they stopped making the 1100T otherwise i would have gone with that

that 7850 will get you around 30 fps on ultra settings and my god, the 750 is good enough for an overclocked cpu, a multi graphics card configuration with enough left over the light up a small disco ball.

Would I be able to run it on high at around 50-60 fps?

I'm also glad to hear I will have enough power to overclock my CPU.

LOL no one asked you on what resolution your running at.
So what resolution are you running at? That way we know what you will get for FPS

lowering the quality like MSAA will give you a nice increase in FPS. you can get a very playable 50+ fps with that card in BF3.

whats so difficult to know 1080 is the most common resolution? if in error and its less, will only benefit the OP.

Well i run BF3 on ultra settings on 1920 x 1080 seamlessly with a Phenom 2 X4 955 (oc'ed to 4.0ghz) and an asus radeon 7850 so you should be good. And the phenom's are better than the FX series. XD

the resolution is 1920x1080, 20,000,000:1 contrast ratio

Well i run BF3 on ultra settings on 1920 x 1080 seamlessly with a Phenom 2 X4 955 (oc'ed to 4.0ghz) and an asus radeon 7850 so you should be good. And the phenom's are better than the FX series. XD

I think i will wait till Piledriver comes out in october. It is great to know I will be able to run on ultra once i get my new processor.
