Hey was wondering if anyone knew of a place a I could get hold of a clearance or sale 5850, keep fings new ones upwards of £220, but as a 2nd hand one goes for 90 I think it's a bit much for a new one.

Any ideas of places to look??

You might want to give it some time (at least a day or two) before you bump a message.

To answer you question, from my POV, the normal places...Amazon, online retailers that may have old stock, if you have a Craigslist or equivalent, eBay...
The 5850's are still bangin' cards. I bought one right before they effectively got replaced by the 6000-series.
Currently, you can buy a 6870 and get comparable performance, or skimp just a few and get a 6850.

Actually according to forum rules you aren't supposed to bump threads. Period.

Second hand is probably the way to go. The 5 series is now two generations back so finding them new is going to be hard.

are you looking for another one to crossfire? if so you might have waited too long. they're getting pretty scarce at this point in time. i was lucky enough to find one on Craigslist a few weeks ago for $50...you might want to start there. eBay is always an option too. if all else fails just sell your current one and pick up a 6870. you wont see much improvement in games if any but they are a lot easier to find and scale a lot better in crossfire then the 5800's.

All the Radeon HD 5850s and 5870s were snapped up by Bitcoin Miners because the Radeon 58xx series yield the highest MegaHashes/Sec plus they also happen to be among one of the best cards for gaming ever and are still alright today = good luck finding one people are holding on hard to them.

Sorry about the bump.

My local cex store has one for 130 so tempted to s ap it up, but have been thinking of ditching/selling the 5850 amd getting a gtx570, fo you think the performance fron the 25850 will mate the 570? Buying the 570 would cost more and just wondering if be worth it , of shall I just get the 5850 ??

Ty for help and sorry again for the bump

Two 5850s should perform a bit lower then two 6850s in CF. (6 series scales better so even though the 6850 is slower then the 5850, in CF the 6850 would be faster.) If you have a 5850 already I would try to sell it for ~$100, and use that money plus what you already have to get the faster card. The 5850 in CF might be a bit faster in some games then the GTX560TI or 6950, but you won't have CF issues with new games and the whole less power used/heat emitted thing.

mousemonky,

"Bah, stupid noob..."
Admittedly, I didn't make myself aware of the "No bumps at all" policy. I shall not make the same mistake twice. ;)

5850 CF is allot faster in all games than a 560ti or 6950 mate.

Granted, I'm in The States and you aren't, but look up item 120864013366 on eBay. (just put the number in the main search window)
I just bought that 5850 for $157.50 out the door... Just gotta keep your eyes open. :sol:
