I just bought a 3570k today, love it so far, but considering I just blew a lot of money on all around upgrades I wasn't sure if the 3770k was actually worth the extra 100$ if all you are doing is gaming? I've heard you can clock the 3570k, and the 3770ks only real benefit is hyper-threading, any truth? Opinions? Thanks! Right now I have my 3570k @ 3.7 so no big oc...plan to aim for 4-4.2 I have a Corsair H100

No, not worth it for gaming. Most games that take advantage of HT are already maxed out by the 3570k.

Alright, so the extra 2mb bigger cache doesn't really influence performance? Just wanted to make sure, thanks!

Unless you're doing video rendering and photo editing etc, they are pretty much just the same in gaming. Most games do not take advantage of hyper threading, so you won't feel any difference with gaming from the two as the 3570k would perform just as well as the 3770k

the i7 is only useful for heavy video rendering. If all you're doing is gaming, the 3570k is the way to go. The little bit of extra cache doesn't affect performance in games. Games struggle to use up 4 cores; therefore those 8 logical threads are rendered useless in games. Most games rely more on GPU power rather than CPU power anyhow.

With the H100, you should be able to overclock the 3570k to 4.5GHz easily.

+1. for all except your last sentence. you don't need a h100 water cooler, at least i don't. i have a 3770k and reached 4.5GHz on 1.2V and the temps don't get higher than 60c after running prime 95 for 24 hours with a 30$ Hyper212+ and the thermal paste it comes with. i've been told i was lucky and got a special chip, but i don't think there is that much difference between my chip and the average Ivy Bridge chip. although most people didn't believe me when i told them this, and suggested that it was a faulty reading from my motherboard, but i tested on 3 different motherboards from MSI and ASUS and they all gave the same temps. i'm just rambling on now, but i don't think you need a H100 for 4.5GHz. if i had a H100 i could probably get mine to 5.0GHz. so him, maybe 4.7 or 4.8.

No, you don't need a H100 to achieve 4.5GHz, but considering the OP stated he already had one I simply told him what he could expect from the H100.
