Usb ports are working..but my pendrive is not working in xp when plugd

i have my system with 2.66ghz intel processor and 2gb ddr2 ram..
i installed winxp sp2 pack..
i use my keyboard and mouse in usb plug they are working fine..
but when i plugg in my pendrive its detecting in an unknown format and doesnt show up..!!

does it show up in diskmanagement? if so format it and give it a letter

Assuming the drive works - it could indeed be in an unsupported format for xp.
ntfs, fat32, and fat are all natively supported by xp
exfat requires kb955704 be installed.

if this is a native Mac pen drive then you will need to backup the data and reformat the drive as FAT for it to be accessible by both Windows and Mac

ya it shows up when i go to controlpanel>add new hardware>but it shows up in an yellow colour in an unsupported format...
it says it needs driver to be installed for pendrives...
i used transcend,dell,hp pendrives..!!
this error occurs when i formatted the hard disk and installed anew version of win xp os..
i m not used to this...
and i dint installed any drivers especially for pendrives before...!!
