Hi,
Bought the C-8080 few days ago and am looking to buy an A/C adapter
C-8AC. It is harder to find than I had expected. In any case, I am
wondering if it is worthwhile to buy such thing especially I don't use
the camera in a studio setting.
When you transfer files from camera to PC, doesn't the PC supply power
through the USB connection? If so, then there isn't much power
consumption on the in camera battery. Is this right?

Hi...
The camera has to be turned on - there isn't nearly enough
power at the usb port to power it.
I suspect you'll want to get a card reader instead anyway,
though.

No, but..

Yes, but only because the camera goes into a low power mode when
attached to a computer. The battery drain isn't very high, but it
certainly won't charge from the USB supply.
If you want to track down a third party power supply, you'll need a
high 'amperage' one - I've tried a 2A one I have here and it is not
sufficient! Look for a 'switchmode' type with about 3 Amp capacity,
check the plug size, voltage and polarity carefully.. and try before
you buy.
But if you don't use the camera indoors much, I'd suggest a second or
third battery would be much more useful. The Oly gives little warning
when the camera is low - one of the few things I dislike about this
camera.

I'm using a no-name universal stabilised power supply with the 8080.
Works perfectly fine.

I really have never missed not having an AC adapter. Since you don't do
studio work, I guess the only other time you'd want one is if you use
the camera to download pics a lot (get a card reader), or if you like
to use the camera to show your pics on T.V. to your guests (get a
life.... kidding, just kidding).

I don't know for sure, but I think the camera supplies it's own power -
the USB only gives you 5 volts, 500 mA max, and the camera requires
~7.4V; I'm not sure how much amperage the camera can draw, but the
adapter supplies up to 2.5A.

Get a card reader. I find it much easier than downloading from the camera
and you don't use any camera battery at all.
Look on e-bay, there are lots of cheap readers about.

I've read all posts answering the OP an I agree with most of'em.Although my
camcorder does have an ac adapter (sony CCD TR425E), to playback casssetes
and record in VHS tape or record when you have a receptacle nearby, the
camera came only with two AA alk.batteries and let the customer decide of
the rechargeable ones.Mine (Kodak CX 7300) is rated 3V, 2.0 A. I never
needed an AC adapter, and I think it's too dangerous to buy something "no
name" for something as delicate as a digital camera, provided that everyone
has NiMH rechargeable batteries, and for the couple of seconds for
downloading the battery drains negligibly, and I think that most digital
cameras don't have an AC adapter jack.I never needed also a card reader,
from what I read in this newsgroup they are faulty, and I can do my job
perfectly with the USB cable that came with the camera.
