You have a relatively slow CPU and a weak graphics card. Also the game is in Beta and as such is not a finished product. Try turning down the graphics settings.

Thanks for your reply i am running everything on low and still seems to be laggy, What would you suggest to upgrade?

Willing to spend around £200 just to get this game working on at least medium running smooth

ok something is wrong with what is reported for your CPU

a core2QUAD Q8200 has a FSB 1333 and 4Mb cache

a core2DUO E8200 also has a FSB 1333 and 6Mb cache.

Intel® Core™ 2 Quad E8200 CPU @ 2.33GHz 1066FSB 3MB L2 Cache 64-bit

does not fit either specs. as soon as that gets resolved chances are with your motherboard having the P43 chipset, (the same as a P45 but ONE pci express slot and not TWO) get an aftermarket cooler and overclock the cpu to see if you get to the "magical" speed of 3Ghz to increase your gaming performance.

however that GT 240 will be a limiting factor.

try looking here at the recommended specs . a GTS 450

This is what i have a core2QUAD Q8200, Sorry i originally had a duo core and just changed the numbers my mistake :), I do have a aftermarket cooler and the CPU is still running hot 48c on idle (which isn't good)

Will look at getting a new GPU though :) thanks

i edited for a few choices. that 48c is not the best. maybe try reseating the heatsink.

btw, what cooler is it? some are barely any better than the stock that come with the cpu.

I have many of times :(, just never seems to drop and added new paste everytime.

Would this be a good upgrade?

yes. though i will admit a AMD 7770 will run circles around it, if you see one in your budget.

I'm more of a Nvidia fan ;), Any better graphics card around the £100 mark you know of?

when it comes down to it, using a 19" 1440x900 monitor, the 1Gb will be enough. the first one being slightly overclocked just might be better; by how much i don't know.

This is a better card. The 550 non Ti is basically a highly overclocked GTX 460 1GB. I have an overclocked GTX 460 1GB and it lets me play all the games I play pretty much maxed at 1920 x 1080. It will be great for 1440 x 900. Skyrim ( my CPU helps that as well ), Deus Ex, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 / NV, Dragon Age Origins / 2, ect.

If you can get your CPU to 3Ghz or better that would help as well.

that is a great suggestion. we could "bump" it up, in the spirit of recon-uk who swears by his 480 SLI rig, and wonder about a 480

but then i am starting to wonder about the "quality" of the 600 watt PSU and if this won't be getting pricey even with the stated £200 budget.

Very doubtful you have a faulty CPU. If you did your computer would not work at all. Much more likely is either, as stated above you just have a really bad aftermarket cooler or it's not seated correctly. What model is it? Improper application of thermal paste ( too little or too much ) can also cause high temps.

I have tried 4/5 to get the temps lower by re seating the heat sink and it's a cooler master heat sink with pipes and used arctic silver 5 paste :(

you might want to not focus so much on the idle temps as much as the load temps.
and both of those are dependent on the Vcore (CPU voltage) you have.

if your Vcore is 1.3+ or on "auto" for stock settings chances are your putting too much voltage to the chip to keep it stable.

try running prime95 and see what your load temps are.
btw, here is an old but relevant thread for overclocking that chip:

These are my results from a previous thread when i was asking about my CPU running hot

Well finally got my TX-3 installed with artic silver 5 paste and here are my readings

Value = 56 Min = 53 Max = 58

#1
Value = 44 Min = 43 Max = 48

#2
Value = 49 Min = 48 Max = 53

#3
Value = 44 Min = 44 Max = 47

those idle temps are . . suspiciously simular of a stuck sensor.

those load temps are pretty awesome.

So would you suggest overclocking? with these temps?

if that first core is the hottest, i'd go for it until it starts hitting 65. i believe the max is 71 so i do like a little "breathing room"

make sure you keep the Vcore as low as possible; running prime95 for 2 hours without a fail.

Check this out, I have ASUS motherboard so i had went to downloaded the ASUS AI Suite, This was telling me my CPU temp was on idle 26c which is amazing with my core at 2.33 so i overclocked this to 2.85 and it went up to 30c which is amazing still!

I noticed on the CPU-z though that my core woulod jump from 2400 to 2850 what would be the reason of this?

i believe you are seeing intel speedstep enabled in your BIOS, it reduces the multiplier and voltage to save power while idling.
