I'm looking to buy a CD-R drive. I would like it to be 12 speed or more and preferably black. Also it must have empty buffer detection. The SONY CRX160E-RP is exacly what I want only it doesn't have burn-proof or similar technology

Try a Plextor 12x with Burnproof. Or if you want a faster one, the Plextor 16x.

Go for Teac, Sanyo, or Plextor. They have Burn Proof tech, and they are very good
