I will be overclocking. my goal is at least 4.5ghz but i prefer to get 4.7-5.0ghz if possible.

i also have the msi gd-65 z77

cpu cooler: zalman cnps 9900 max.

so which cpu would be better for my needs.

As confirmed by Toms and other sites it doesn't worth to move to Ivy Bridge if you currently own a SB CPU...so whatever you pick is gonna give you the ultimate performance.
The bottom line for enthusiasts is that Ivy Bridge’s IPC-oriented improvements alone are not compelling enough to warrant an upgrade from Sandy Bridge chips running at similar frequencies.

NOTE: There's no gain from 5 GHz specially in gaming performance, even there some software are unstable at that speed you'll get just a higher punch of numbers if you run a bench program.

so basicaly 4.5 ghz would be a fine overclock for gaming stable and speed wise so ivy bridge would be better over sandy bridge for a new build i could care less if i can get sb cheaper so ib is way to go
