Cannot access cable modem from main computer
NIC card Asante 10NIC-PCI
Win 98
NIC shows OK in device log TCPIP setups are OK Ping 127.0.01 is OK
Ping outside site- no packets returned

Here is the strange thing- Launch Winipfcfg-IP lease obtained shows date 24 hrs before actual time of release/renew and lease expires shows time of actual release/renew. Computer clock OK. Changing clock forward/back gives same i.e. IP obtained still 24 hrs before real time.
What does this mean?

New NIC- Linksys 10/100 shows same problem.
However can access cable modem etc from lap top( not networked with main computer) so cable circuit looks OK

Anyone have any thoughts pls?
