Hello,

I have an ASUS P5LP-LE mobo http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00864946
I recently bought an Intel X6800 processor so I can make stuff run better http://ark.intel.com/products/27258/Intel-Core2-Extreme-Processor-X6800-%284M-Cache-2_93-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB%29

The processor is socket-775 compatible. However, when I install the new CPU, it boots to a black screen. No windows loading, no boot screen, just black. When I put the old cpu back in, it boots just fine. I'm so confused. Also a bit frustrated.

Here's a few more specs just in case they're important.
Old CPU: Intel Celeron(D) CPU 3.06 GHz
OS: Windows XP - SP2
Video: Radeon X1650
3.50 GB DDR2 RAM
Bios Version: Pheonix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Rev. 3.19

Any help/advice/suggestions greatly appreciated.

It might need a BIOS update to support the new CPU

I'm kinda nervous about messing with BIOS. I hear some bad stuff can happen. But if I do it right, I can totally double my processing power.

So, how do I know which update I need?
