Core 2 Extreme X6800 on ASUS P5LP-LE [black screen]

Hello,

I recently bought an Intel X6800 processor so I can make stuff run better http://ark.intel.com/products/27258...cessor-X6800-(4M-Cache-2_93-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB)

The processor is socket-775 compatible. However, when I install the new CPU, it boots to a black screen. No windows loading, no boot screen, just black. When I put the old cpu back in, it boots just fine. I'm so confused. Also a bit frustrated.

Here's a few more specs just in case they're important.
Old CPU: Intel Celeron(D) CPU 3.06 GHz
OS: Windows XP - SP2
Video: Radeon X1650
3.50 GB DDR2 RAM
Bios Version: Pheonix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Rev. 3.19

Any help/advice/suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'm kinda nervous about messing with BIOS. I hear some bad stuff can happen. But if I do it right, I can totally double my processing power.

So, how do I know which update I need?

try this BIOS update. directions are there as well if you need them. it could be possible that your BIOS simply does not support the CPU. it says only the core 2 E4000 and E6000 series are supported.
