Thats with a weaker card than the 6790 and it almost hits the 30fps mark (Which all you need in BF3 is to stay above the 30 fps, it still is silky smooth!) Might save you a bit of Money!

According to the charts the 570 will. BF games usually favor Nvidia. Both though are good regardless.

Battlefield 3 is a very resource heavy title and relies a lot on memory.The HD 6970 has superior vram(2GB vs 1.28GB of 570) and far superior bandwidth(175gb/s vs 152gb/s of 570),thus the HD 6970 will run BF3 more smoothly and swiftly than the GTX 570.
Note: When it comes to shaders, the GTX 570 is the way to go.So in other shader intensive titles the GTX 570 may edge past the HD 6970 by a few fps but gameplay will remain similar.

I agree, I would also recommend the 6970.

Ram does in the matter of how much you have. You shouldn't need more than 4G in most cases and 8G in even less.

It does depending on the game and the resolution at which you are playing it.If you play at 1920x1080p you should have 1.5GB vram and if @ 2560x1600 you may look towards 2gb vram to be safe,although the gtx 580 can rip anything with 1.5gb and that is one great card if you can afford.
But this memory analysis should be done strictly for battlefield 3.On other titles shading performance dominates all the way through.
