PSU innovation rate?

So my PSU has a coil whine (quiet high pitched noise) and it kind of annoys me. I have some extra cash on hand so it seems like a win-win to get a really nice 700w+ PSU to eliminate noise and future proof the power supply aspect of my PC. My question is, how fast are PSUs developing? Will I be left in the dust this year? Should I just buy the same PSU again?

PSUs are not a actively developing technology.

IMO buy a quality PSU like Corsair or Cooler Master (my favorite) which has connectors you need. (6 pin or 8 pin or 6/8 pin like on my psu (where you can pull the extra two pins away from it so you have versatility I can post photos)
