Hi, I have a rather dated CPU/Motherboard and I'm planning on upgrading, here are some specs.

CPU : AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Graphics : AMD Radeon HD 6670
Motherboard : MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7125 (Socket 939)

I plan on upgrading my CPU and my motherboard. I was talking with a computer store guy and he suggested I get a quad core 3.1 ghz processor, not sure about motherboard yet. But would the processor go good with the GPU?

And suggestions are accepted

In reality the Core i3-2100 will be the best option when paired with the 6670!

Normally I'd agree with the post above.

But since you have a Radeon HD 6670 I would recommend an AMD APU based setup. Example being an A8-3850. Why? Because you can Crossfire your 6670 with the Radeon GPU found inside the AMD APU.

This will give you better gaming performance (moreso than an i3 + 6670 alone).

hes going to change his motherboard as well so thats not a problem.
i agree with elmo its great if you can get the A10-5800k apu.
its a quad core apu with built in radeon 7660D graphics which when paired with your 6670 would boost your fps in games!!
