Would a case fan work as a cpu fan?

Would a case fan (2500 rpm) work as a cpu fan?

As long as the cpu has the heatsink on it, it can work. Be sure to monitor your cpu temps to make sure that the airflow is adequate. If you are taking off one of your case fans and putting it on the cpu, I would advise to buy a new one instead since case fans are pretty important.

Sure as long as the fan can be mounted to the heatsink.

If you are referring to a 120mm fan, then there are plenty of heatsinks out there that can make use of a standard 120mm fan. The question is if you heatsink can make use of it.
