More about what upgrade
  1. How much $ are you planning on spending and what PSU ? It looks like the CPU+Motherboard is in need of an upgrade and wouldn't hurt to upgrade your GPU either.
  2. Your gonna need a whole new computer basically.

You need cpu, which means new mobo and ram (unless you already have ddr3)

A new video card, which may or may not require a new power supply and WinXP is obsolete, so you need a new OS too.
  3. I would probably convert the existing one as a home server and build a new one...the Ivy Bridge i5 3570K....
  4. Yea I agree with these guys. If you have around $800-1000 you can build a nice pc with noticeable performance upgrade from the current pc you have.

He could do it for half that.

A $400-500 computer ? It sure wouldn't be much better. He would be better off saving up more $ for however much longer it takes.
  7. HI my budget is about 1000-1200
  8. How about this?

    CPU: i7 3570k
Mobo: Any one of these (ASRock extreme 6, MSI Z77A-GD65, ECS Z77H2-A2X)
    RAM: G.Skills 2x4 gb (8GB)
    PSU: Seasonic x750
Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo (or Noctua NH-D!4 or Corsair H100 if you want to overclock)
HDD: Seagate 2tb 7200 rpm hdd
    GPU: GTX 580
    Optical Drive: your choice
    Case: Plenty to choose from
