Hello all,

Approximate Purchase Date: Next week or so.

Budget Range: about $650.00- $700.00

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming/ surfing

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Country: United States

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, hopefully at leat a Core I3

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1600 x 900

Additional Comments: Like I said above i was thinking about a Core I3 and maybe a 6850 GPU

I had been following this thread, and thinking about using its build but all the deals cited are expired.

  1. Meh 6850's are gonna eventually become... obsolete. For your resolution, a good I5 2400, AMD 7770 or a NVIDIA GTX 560 ti and a good ASUS or ASRock mid range motherboard and thats your major parts everything else can be debated
  2. Do you have a Micro Center nearby? www.microcenter.com

    Case = NZXT GAMMA Classic Series - 35.99
    Power Supply = Antec EarthWatts Green 430W - 54.99
    Processor = Intel Core i3-2120 - 124.99
    Motherboard = GIGABYTE GA-H61MA-D3V - 59.99
    Memory = G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) - 41.99
    Graphics = SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6870 - 169.99 (before 10.00 MIR)
    Optical = LITE-ON 24x DVD Burner - 17.99
    Hard Drive = Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB - 79.99
    OS = Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - 99.99

    TOTAL = $685.91 (before shipping or rebates)

    This should more than max games at your resolution and provide a good gaming expierence.

    You could downgrade the Graphics to a Sapphire Radeon 6850 and save $20 if it gets you closer to your budget and still have a good gaming expierence at your resolution.
  5. Check my sig :)
  6. Thanks for all the input. Sadly I dont have a Microcenter anywhere nearby.

    @ Pezcore27... if I were to extend my budget and get a Core I5 would most of your suggestions still be valid except the power supply?

    Thanks again

    I think you should flip flop.

    Get the i5 2400
    Get the AMD 7770 ( performance on par and a bit better then 6850 especially with DX11 ) just 1 six pin, the PSU would be fine.

    Main draw, less then 8 gigs of ram...only 4...but most times 4 is just fine and you can add later. This is more of nit pick. Pez's build works rather well, but u cant add to the mobo where you can add ram...

    .02

    Let us know how it works out.

  14. What do you means? The mobo I suggested fully supports an ivy bridge processor with a bios flash , has PCIe 3.0 with ivy. Only thing it cannot do that yours can is crossfire and overclock. If the op is using the 2400 than he isn't going to overclock so the z68 is a waste.

    That board is probably the best budget board going for the price.
  15. The board is cramped and does not have as extras the z68 does. Both do not sli/cross fire but the z68 OC. Given space to spread out the gpu and cpu it would also make a cooler build. Again the build u have is fine. I like the build. I'd rather just be able to add cheap ram as needed and have the option to move up to an CPU I can OC.

    Again, nada bad about the build. I like it. I'd just go z68 for about the same price.
  16. Sorry,but I have 1 more question for you if I may.

    I was looking at specs for the SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 gpu recommended for me and It said it requires 500 watts, but the New Egg PSU calculator states the system needs about 430 as you recommended. Why the difference? Sorry to be a pain, just want to understand it a bit better.
    Thanks alot for all your help!
    Bill
  17. The manufacturer will always rate them higher to give a little headroom for protection. They do it to prevent damage to the card from inadequate power supplied to the card.

    The December 2011 SMB ran that same CPU/GPU combo off an Earthwatts 430.

  18. Ok!Thanks again for all the help.

  19. The guy who got selected builded a PC almost identical as mine (He even used the same mobo I used) but mine had 2 free games....... Oh well.
