Hi, I have upgraded my dual CPU Tyan Motherboard from 2 Athlon Dual Core CPU's to 2 Athlon Quad Core CPU's and I cannot get the Computer to boot! even to the Cmos Screen.
I get no beeps, the CPU Fans speed up, but it just sits there.
THe Quad Core CPU's are 2nd hand but are supposedly tested OK. I have stripped all the PCI Cards out, reset the bios, changed the Ram placement, tried one CPU at a time but all to no avail.
As soon as I put the original CPU's back in, the computer boots and is on it's way.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing the problem?? All I can think is that I have bought two Dud CPU's

Thanks for any help.

The Motherboard is a Tyan Thunder n3600B S2927

The original CPU's that are in it are AMD Athlon Dual Core 2218's OSA2218GAA6CX

The CPU's that I have unsuccessfully replaced them with are AMD Opteron 8389 Quad-Core 2.9GHz CPU OS8389WHP4DGI

Both are F Socket.

I thought it would be an automatic replacement.

Your board doesnt support it totally different family of CPU the series number is a giveaway

Old CPU - 2218 (2xxx series)

New CPU - 8389 (8xxx series)

Your board only supports the 2000 series sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the new ones you bought will never work on that board.
