We Have Acer Aspire 5100-3959 Laptop with Acer MBABK02001 Motherboard and an AMD MK-36 2.0GHz CPU. Can we upgrade the CPU to AMD Turion 64x2 TL-68 2.4GHz?

You just happened to have an old Turion 64 X2 lying around?
Serious answer though, probably not. The CPU is likely soldered directly to the motherboard, and therefore not removable.

Honest answer, save a little and get a new laptop.

No! it is one I purchased before thinking whether or not it will work with the Mobo listed. Neither CPU is soldered to the Mobo. Rihgt now he Current CPU is a AMD MK-36 2.0GHz single core. The Motherboard (I just found out is not made by Acer, but ATI) MBABK02001 lists the CPU support as AMD Turion 64x2 TL-50 or Higher. I'm asking can I upgrade the CPU from the AMD MK-36 2.0 single core to the AMD TL-68 2.4 dual core. I know the Next higher single core is the AMD MK-38 CPU 2.1 and yes it would be nice to just get another Laptop, but Money is an issue right now and I like tinkering with the laptop if but to know with help, it can be repaired. I sure thank you for your input.

Thanks for your imput. I could not find the specs for the Mobo (Not made by Acer) but ATI, and still could find no info on it Acer Model MBABK02001. The Socket is right S1g1, I did not know if there was a different FSB or How much higher than the AMD TL-50 I could go. I will try it when I get the replacement Mobo and will let you know how I came out. again I sure thank you!

I had purchased a AMD Turion TL-68 but returned it as I was unsure it would work in this motherboard and did not want to make the laptop inoperable. Since I am unable to find the specs for this mobo from acer, I asked on this forum if I can upgrade the CPU from the AMD Turion MK-36 (Single core)which it now has installed, to the AMD Turion 64x2 TL-68 (Dual Core) on this model mobo MBABK02001?? All I am sure of is Acer was of no help, Useless! If I can do this I can buy the TL-68 again. I need help! ASAP. Thanks!
