what is the difference between in this cpu intel i5 2500 V/S i5 3550 (3rd GEN)
and which is best among them?
NEED FOR GAMING BUT I PREFER EXTERNAL GPU -GTX 550 TI,SO LEAVE GRAPHICS IN INTEL INTEGRATED PERFORMANCE.

I am no professional but the way I understand it is that the 3rd gen Ivy Bridge CPU's represent a transition from a 32nm to a 22nm lithography. The general architecture is very similar to 2nd gen Sandy Bridge CPU's however this die shrink brings some advantages; namely an increase in transistor density per area unit, the ability to use higher clocked RAM and of course PCIe Gen 3.

the latter, paired with a z77/b75/h77 motherboard supports PCIe 3.0, and run 1600mhz ram at that speed by default.

the 3550 also has a better performance per clock though only by a small margin except maybe in a few applications. it also consumes less power.

if the 2500 is significantly cheaper, and you're using it to play games, then go for the 2500.

3550 is faster
the 3rd gen:
is 22nm (compared to 32nm)
supports PCIe 3
supports officially 1600mhz RAm and up to 2700Mhz or something unofficially
has a lower TDP than 2nd gen
does other stuff that I've forgotten about
