On CPU install, forgot to raise and lower arm

So after putting the CPU on the motherboard and putting the cooler on it, I realized out of the blue that I missed a step. There is an arm next to the socket for the CPU which should be raised prior to dropping in the CPU, then lowered again; I forgot to do this. (Motherboard is Asus M5A99X Evo)

I don't want to begin mounting the cooler again if I don't have to, so do I have any choice in the matter?

  1. nope, take the cooler off and put the CPU in properly
