Would an I3 2120 bottleneck a Radeon 7850

I'm doing a budget gaming build and I had a quick question. Would an I3 2120 bottleneck a Radeon 7850. I know it's all about an even balence but would mixing a 100 dollar CPU with a 250 dollar GPU cause problems? Would the 7850 be "to advanced" for the I3?

  1. could you step up to an i5 if possible??

    remember i3 is dual-core HT 2 physical, 2 logical

HT has little effect on games
  2. A i3 wouldn't bottleneck TWO 7850's.

The only "bottleneck" you might experience is a dual core may not perform up to par in MMO's or a few games that require 4 cores for smooth play.

One of these would be BF3. But I expect it would still play well.
  3. I wouldn't be playing bf3 or Skyrim two games that seem to demand more than four cores. Also my monitor isn't that great and I will be upgrading soon. It's a 19" screen but only goes up to 1400 resolution, I don't know how much that matters.

Then you'll be fine. At that resolution, you'll never use the full power of a 7850.

  6. Thanks but do you think I would be better off with the 7770, you make it sound like the 7850 would be overkill? If I can save 100 dollars and still get good performance I'll take it.

I wouldn't drop all the way down to a 7770, but I have a couple suggestions that might meet you "halfway".

How about a 6870? Its somewhere in between the 7850 and 7770.. It performs a little under the 560 TI on the Nvidia side and better than 550 TIs

Speaking of 560 TIs, this little bumblebee could be yours for $180 after mail in rebate

  8. 7770 and 7850 are miles apart.
