I7 860 @2.8 GHz question

So a few years ago my parents got me a computer before I headed off to college and I was pretty happy with it. I also ONLY played WoW at the time so the computer was pretty good for what I needed. But now that it's been a few years and I play games like BF3 and skyrim my current set-up isn't cutting it.

My problem is that I want to upgrade a lot of things in my computer but my current motherboard(MSI MS-7613)/processor combination is limiting what I can get(because of the 1156 processor socket). Would getting a new motherboard/processor be worth giving up the i7 860?

Some other PC specs if it's relevant to the question..

CPU: i7 860 @ 2.8GHz
Motherboard: MSI MS-7613
Graphics card: Radeon HD 5570 graphics card
Monitor resolution: 1920x1080

Biggest problem is that you have a HTPC video card that cannot game. An i7-860 is still very potent even at stock and more so when overclocked. First generation i7s or lga1156 and 1366 are on average ~10% slower than sandy bridge while 3rd gen ivy are ~5% faster than sandy bridge. Either way, they're still very competitive even 4 years after it was released.

Smack a CM212+ Evo / Hyper on it and get it up to 3.6ghz. Get a good GPU and PSU and have fun!

* No, it's not worth upgrading any first gen i7/i5 system yet for gaming *

Thank you!! I've been looking at the CM212+ since it's been getting excellent reviews. I know how to OC graphics cards now I just need to learn how to OC my i7...

I'm still trying to learn everything I can about computer hardware but I obviously still have a lot to learn.. :)
