Which one would be better for video encoding?

I'm planning on encoding 1080p/720p video to flash.

Both with 4gb of ram running Ubuntu.

Thanks.

The i5 2320 would be a lot faster than the i3!

hey guys he asked for xeon e3 1230 not core i3

That is a workstation class cpu

Technically Xeon should perform much better than i5 in heavy threaded applications. But if video encoding is the only task then it can not be totally said as it has quick sync technology.

But for rendering Xeon is definitely the best as it has hyper threading . So basically you will have 4 physical cores and four other cores with half speed that mean six cores or eight threads.

the only contender of it is Core i7. Cause that has the same architecture and eight threads too.

but your application must support hyper threading most rendering application like adobe premiere or sony vegus pro supports it
