What is it with people on ebay saying things like '2x2.8 Ghz = 5.6 GHz dual core'.

I told some of them thats its misleading, they are basically saying that the cores on a dual core are joined to form a single core, which they aren't they are seperate.

I gave up as there were too many, where they get the idea that you mulitply the frequency by the number of cores?

More about : ghz pentium

They're just unscrupulous sellers trying to take advantage of people that aren't very computer savvy. I'm sure they know that what they're saying is pure BS, they just want to make a quick buck off of others' ignorance.

It's unfortunate, but I'm sure that MANY people actually buy into that BS.

Nice of you to tell them they are wrong, but unfortunately there is no real way to police that type of deception. Especially if you do not work for ebay.

Hi :)

I had a young lad come into one of my shops with his dad and he wanted a 18000 ghz 6 core cpu... lol

When I explained that it was 6 CORES at 3000 ...he didnt believe me and said he would go back to PCWORLD where they told him they sell them... :(

So its not just Ebay..

All the best Brett :)

Yea got into an arguement with one of them and eventually won, he said that everyone else was doing thats why he did it...

So hard to find a example when you need one, bascially most of the people that sell 'gaming computers' often say BS like that.

Brett, never thought PC world would of said that, suprising.

Bit annoying if you bought a so called 5.6 GHz dual core and relise that the seller sold you a 2.8 GHz dual core.

Sounds good, but my 400000000000 THz 100 core CPU and my 54000000RPM SSD would beat that, even my 2 TB 1000THz GPU which is PCI-I 6.9 with 5120 PB of 6400THz RAM.

A couple of old rules of thumb apply here, unfortunately
1. There is a sucker born every minute (and someone who will take advantage of them)
2. Never try to argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.
