Wire for fan cable extensions

a really nooby question but couldn't find the answer anywhere

what sort of wire should I use when soldering extensions for case fans?

any real difference?

most builders go with extentions, not sure what kind of wire exactly.

Although for fans you can get away with 20ga braided wire, I prefer 18ga braid - if you can find it with real flexible insulation, awesome.

will have a fan controller outside the case so the cables will be 1-2 metres, so those would quickly get expensive.

I don't know what you're doing with controllers outside the case but with wires that long I would not go smaller than 18AWG. Any stranded (as opposed to solid) wire will work fine. I'm not sure what is meant by "braided" wire.
