Upgrading from AMD 4850 GPU to 6870 GPU

Hey guys,

Was thinking about upgrading my old quad core rig, just to do a little more gaming seems BF3 has rare little frame spikes that can get you killed easily.. My question is "Can my PC Power it" (it = AMD 6870) I don't want my system locking up in the middle of gaming.

My System:

AMD HD 4850
AMD x4 9950 x4 @ 3.2 Ghz (140w)
8GB DDR2 1066 (1.2v 2 sticks)
PSU: Ultra LSX 650 (+12v = 48a)
1 Sata HD
1 Sata DVD-RW
1 USB Keyboard
1 USB Mouse
1 USB Head Set
1 USB Wifi Device

Yes your psu can power it only if you go to Crossfire you will need to upgrade it.

here you can see some benchmarks on that PSU she can handle the 650w 6870 don't need more than that.

Based on that, I don't see an issue. A single 6870 should get you decent frame rates @ 1080p on medium settings.

you 100% sure? I have a 140w CPU in it's self, and the 6870 pulls 280 alone? sure my rail wont burn up ?

They'd be on different rails. And I'm pretty sure you'd be ok. I'm crossfiring 6870s on a 600 watt PSU, lol.

yes 650w is more than enough.

The 6870 does not pull 280w, probably not even half of that.

I'd recommend waiting to see the new 77XX and 78XX cards releasing soon, they will be even less power hungry. Also when they arrive the 68XX will likely drop in price or have a rebate to get rid of them.
