Hello there everyone.

As I wrote in the title, I'm thinking of choosing one of these two CPU's.

The CPU will be used mainly for gaming, with the vga being GTX 460 768MB, the resolution 1680x1050.

There will be not be any kind of overclocking neither on the CPU nor on the vga.

Following the CPU recommendation which of these motherboards would u suggest:

- Gigabyte GA-970A-D3

- Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3

I'm not thinking of any SLi; USB3 or SATA6 do not matter for me.

I'm planning to use the CPU temporarily until the new FX(Piledriver) is officially on the market and the prices being settled down as normal, which I presumed would be not before new year.

Thank you in advance for all you opinions and recommendations.

If you are not interested in Crossfire/Sli, then go with the 970 board.

The Phenom II X4 will definitely give you a better gaming experience and would be my recommendation. It will definitely last you until Piledriver gets here and the prices have settled. [strike]You could even overclock (get a good cpu cooler, not the stock fan) the X4 to get even more life out of it just in case you want to wait a little longer before getting a Piledriver.[/strike]

Edit: Sorry, forgot you mentioned no overclocking.

Good morning to all.

Thanks for your replies. I ordered a x4 965 and a 970 motherboard.

So the final configuration would be:

- Amd Phenom II x4 965 BE
- Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
- Nvidia GTX 460 768MB

I'm thinking of adding a second hand GTS 450 for dedicated Physx, on the x4 slot.

What do you think? Would the performance be reduced if I did so?
