Hello, everyone!
I have a question...
I am going to be using a computer for 2 years. Should I roll with a 6970 or 7950? I want games to be playable at high settings in DX11 / future games for the next two years. I don't need to look beyond that, I don't need a part that will last for the next 40 years, just the next two. The resolution of my monitor is also 1050x1650 or something (not 1080p). I won't be changing that anytime soon.

Solution
This is strange, they aren't even close in price... I would say if you can afford the 7950 then get it, it will be overkill for your monitor but then so would anything above $200.

If you want to stay around $300 then choose between the HD 6970 or the GTX 570.

Your monitor resolution is 1680x1050.
Well, 7950 is a faster card, specially in DX11.

If you got the money, get this beast and you shall play every game maxed! (maybe not witcher 2 with ubersampling ON...)

Which the other pc components?

Well, I'm on a budget, and I would like to keep the price low. If anyone has any other options, that would be great too.

Keep in mind, that I'm going to be using a 1650x1050 monitor for the next TWO years only. I want to play games on high (super ultra 100% doesn't really matter, or AA, just high) only for the next TWO years. So, if anyone has any suggestions on this, or how the 7800 series will perform over the next fifth of a decade... go ahead!

There are a lot of rumours flying around, only real way to tell is by benchmarks when they come out. From what I read the 7850 and the 7870 will have similar performance to the 6950 and 6970 respectively while using less power. If the rumoured prices of $220 and $300 are true it might not be worth it unless Nvida finally releases Kepler.

cbrunnem's advice is really good.
