I know this has one less core, but for most things this is much better. It also uses a better manufacturing process, has a better upgrade path, and uses less power. I know you can not overclock with it but it is still much better for games.
Why can't I oc the i3 ? Motherboard restriction ? What kind of motherboard (chipset) should I buy if want to oc ?
What about the Pentium G630 (oc, price, performances) ?
You can only overclock K-series such as i5 2500K/3570K due to them having unlocked multiplier. Unlike 1st generation i3/i5/i7, 2nd and 3rd generation can't be overclocked via BCLK.
Edit: Forgot to mention, if you plan on upgrading to i5/i7 ####K in the future, H61 won't let you overclock. I'd recommend getting cheapest Z75 board you can find to have the ability to upgrade in the future.
I would go with a z68 if you want to overclock in the future, but it would put you above your price limit. Pentium will do about as well as an I3 for lightly threaded things, but for threaded programs, the I3 has a lead because of hyper-threading.
