Hello. I recently updated the bios for my ASUS M5A87 to the lastest version (1001). After the update, my pc would crash whenever I tried to play any video games. Thinking that the bios was the issue I downgraded to version 0901. This version still caused the system to crash, so I downgraded even further to version 0803. This version stopped the crashing but now the performance of my gtx 560 ti seems to have decreased.

Usually I play MW3 max settings at 1920X1080 and get a steady 90 fps, now my fps drops to as low as 50 sometimes. Is it a problem with the bios, or maybe some setting got messed up? Did it mess with my graphics card by any chance? Any help is appreciated.

My Specs:

ASUS M5A87
Phenom ii X6 1090T
8GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX
Gigabyte GTX 560 TI
600W Xtech PSU

try it with a different psu like seasonic, enermax 500w psu.
i googled 'xtech 600w' and the results say that your psu is a very old one, from the p4 era...

I plan on changing it. I ordered a thermaltake 600W. Just waiting for it to get here. Do u think anything else could cause the issue?
I was getting the steady 90 fps on this same psu before the bios upgrade

Wait for the powersupply and see if you get any gains. if not then go back into the bios and see if you cant find some new settings options or previously available options that may have been changed

Alright. When I get the power supply i'll check and see if it makes a difference. If not i'll definitely look into a new mobo. I have a feeling it's the psu though. Tried playing bf3 and after about 5 mins the pc shut down and wouldn't power on. Opened my side panel and the psu was extremely hot. I played mw3 for 5 hours earlier though, no probs apart from fps drop.

I don't know if this bit of info will help, but WEI rates my gfx card as 6.0

I reinstalled the nvidia drivers as well as the chipset drivers. The fps drops have gotten better. Now it only drops to about 70 fps. However there's a new issue now. I play mw3 and wow for hours with no probs, but when i play cod4 or cod:waw after 20 mins or so, the system shut's down (or something to that effect). The screen goes black, the hdd's power off, but the cpu and gpu fans still spin. If i press the reset button the system resets, if i press the power button everything turns off.

My gpu temp never passes 65 degrees (i monitor constantly in game). Usually after shutdown i immediately check temps in bios, cpu is always 50 - 53 degrees (never seen it pass 55 under load) and mobo 36.

I'll get those programs and monitor temps until shut down next time.

Alright. I guess i'll just have to wait until the new psu gets here I see if the problem is solved. Thank you all for all the responses
