I'm running a FX8120 at a tad over 4.0 ghz and my cpu at idle is about 32 degrees and with gaming about 47 degrees.i'm running the evo with an extra fan for push pull setup.

People are hitting over 4.5GHz with SB + 212EVO, that's already more than what most people will bother with.

Having something better may improve chances of getting there or beyond possibly with lower voltage and temperatures but the 212EVO is a serious inexpensive option. Depending on who's HSF benchmarks you read, it comes only 3-7C short of matching the NH-D14 for less than half the price, which is impressive bang-per-buck.

Frostytech is strange though... In their 212 Evo test http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2655&page=5 it was only a little over 2C worse in the 150W test than a NH-D14 and the Phanteks and it was even with a Silver Arrow. We all know none of that is true.

Something I trust much more, since it's a real world test, here. Phanteks review: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/phanteks_ph_tc14pe/4.htm

in general, its really hard to perfectly replicate testing everywhere because of the fact that people test in slightly different conditions and minor things can affect the temperature as well like tightness of the hsf, how well the thermal paste is applied etc.( as well as how it gets tested) [I mean, I myself would love a Blue Phlantek HSF to go with some of the blue/black changes im making to my overall build.)

I'm hitting 4.6 on the 212 and my temps never get abouve 63C. One can overclock just fine with this as long as you have the right case and fan setup inside the case.
