Okay so I just ordered a new graphics card from Newegg, as the one i have right now idles around 80c when i have an actual large fan pointing at the open case. With this crappy graphics card i was able to play Starcraft 2 at the highest possible settings and skyrim on medium without any lag whatsoever. I want to know how well this new graphics card will handle video games. Here is my set up:

Ram: 3.25 Gigs (actually 4 gigs but i have 32 bit, therefore only 3.25 are usable. I plan on upgrading in a couple of weeks).

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @3.00GHz (Sorry no link)

New Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=14-161-386&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=#scrollFullInfo

Power Supply: 650 watts

I'm new to this so i'm not sure if you guys need anything else, but let me know and i will respond ASAP. Thanks you so much :D

Maybe you should ask questions before you order. What is your current video card?
How did you determine it's idling at 80C? Have you blown out the dust lately?
Your new card really isn't going to give highest settings and fast frame rates unless you have a low resoultion monitor. But maybe you'll be satisfied with it after your old card.

going to that 6670 isn't much an upgrade from your 4800 series, it might even downgrade, 4800 are known for running hot but at 80c is pretty high for idle temperature , what's your room temperature ?

Catalyst control tells me it's temp. I have blown the dust out a lot. My monitor is 1650 x 1050.

Do you think i'll still be able to at least play the games without lag at all (whether it be low temps)? My room temp is around 73 degrees f, give or take a couple degrees.

To the guy above me (sorry haha): How do i check what the exact number is, because that's all my computer is telling me :{. Talk to meh, computer!

I'm perfectly happy with that :DD. It was only like 50 bucks and i can now turn this goddamn fan off. Also, my video card atm has 512 dedicated ram, and the new one has 1G. Will that make a difference?

yes. video memory is one factor in how well a game will run. just don't expect a huge performance...if your happy with what you purchase than its all good though. if u put like 20 more bucks you can get a 5770/6770 for better performance.

edit: 6770 same price. just a rebadge with small updates. buy the 6770 over the 5770
