Hello,

I'm doing a gradual upgrade of my system. I have an old Intel Quad Core Medion OEM, that I'm transplanting in a new case with a new PSU.

The new PSU is a Corsair TX850M, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with my build.

If I use my existing power supply I can get the machine running just plugging in the 20 pin cable onto the motherboard and it get it working if I also plug in the 4 pin CPU. This would suggest I've correctly wired up the case pins etc.

If I replace the 20 pin cable with the the 24 pin cable from the PSU, it fits the motherboard (and claims to be 20 pin compatible) but when I try to power it up, the power light flicks on, the fans spin but only for a moment before powering down.

I don't have a second machine to test the PSU and haven't been able to find the solution by searching the forum so hopefully you guys might be able to help.

So far I've tried, plugging in the 24pin and the 4 pin connectors, removing a replacing the board battery (without mains power) and a few other things.

I should probably add that I've done everything under here with the exception of anything requiring an multimeter.

Should also note that the new PSU is brand new. I suspect it is DOA but as I'm getting some life from it I'm reluctant to send it back.

The extra pins on a 24 pin power cable are just voltage so the PSU should work on a 20 pin MB connector. BTW, what's a Medion?

Medion is a German computer company, all the parts as far as I can tell are manufactured by other company's but Medion just stick a badge on it.

The motherboard for example is made by Asus.

I should probably be clearer the 20 pin is on the old (working)PSU and the 24 on the new (not working) PSU.

Also, the onboard LAN lights up with the new PSU.

Thanks for the info :-)

Apparently I'm not allowed to edit my messages so sorry for the bumping/spamming

Found the manual here:

pin 20 is 'NC' = not connected?
