My computer won't accept xp discs

Hello everyone:
I've been dealing with an old computer lately that i want to make usable again the problem is that after a week trying to find out what to do after a message of "NTLDR missing" on my boot screen and after applying tons of programs to have the hard disk working again I was finally able to wipe and format the disk, nevertheless, when I run the xp disk on my computer my boot screen reads: "Invalid system disk
Replace the disk, and then press any key

I've been working on this computer a lot and i still can't make it work, any suggestions?

Make sure your BIOS is set to boot from the optical drive and that the installation CD is inserted when you power on the system. Follow the prompts from there.
