As I'm impatient my budget built was a work in progress for nearly a year and a half and is finally near completion. All I need is to buy some new case fans and new a cpu fan. The problem being is my the GTX550 Ti is loud even in idle. So is there any point of me spending extra trying to get a quiet fan and case fans that do the same as louder but cheaper fans?

Have you adjusted your cards fan speed?

I turned them down a to the point that the stock cpu cooler is the louder of the two. But still is it worth paying the extra since the card tends to be loud?

No, not really. Case fans won't help with the loudness of your GPU. Just turn the fan speed down.
