First off this has little to do with GRAPHICS CARDS. This is MONITORS! So I'm getting a custom PC and I have a 23" monitor RIGHT NOW and am wondering if I should keep it. Here it is... http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/display/display/1/storefronts/XP598AA%2523ABA

It's only 1920x1080 which is "best" to many people. Not gamers, I would love even a 1200 res. Greater would be better but whatever.

My question: Do I use this monitor, or do what I want to do, and get a Ultra HD monitor? Is Ultra HD, aren't theyy $700-$1000? Are there any cheaper? May I have a link if so? P.S. I'll be getting my custom PC in 10-15 days. I don't know what will be in it, but an i5 2550k unlocked, and the G card will be in the 6770-6970 window. (WILL BE RADEON, max res will forsure be 2560x1600, no crossfire.)

P.S. The rig will be top of the line, and specifally for gaming. I will be playing BF3, SC2 maybe, GTA V FORSURE!!, maybe I'll get into Skyrim. Basically, modern games.

P.S.S. I was thinking of going with 6870 Crossfire? Will that help?

Many games dont support ultra HD resolutions. Going with anything bigger than 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 might be be a challange, because many games dont support the correct aspect ratio, think short fat people, or they just dont have a resolution that high.

The CoD games for example cant do ultra wide with out third party fixes, Most THQ games like homefront or spacemarine only go to 1920x1080.

BF3 is a good example of a game that is optimized and adjustable for almost any res so that will work well with a new monitor. However most games will not work as well.

I advise you to keep the current monitor for now and see how it feels. I expect higher res support in the coming months and years. You may get more value if you wait a bit.

PS an i5 and a 6770 is not top of the line. A 6770 cost like 100 bucks. A 6970 on the other hand you could call top of the line, that bad boy costs like 400.

If you want to go bigger than x1200, you're going to spend, at minimum, several hundred dollars (and more likely in excess of $1k).

Personally, my eyes are crap and a 27" 1080p display is fine for me. I'd really prefer x1200, but you pay through the nose for those last 120 lines and it's not that big of a deal. You'll definitely notice them missing if you're using your computer for productivity oriented tasks, like video/image editing and software development (especially software development), but for gaming I don't think it's a deal breaker.

Samsung S27850D, HP Z2740W (I think that's it), and Dell Ultrasharp U2711 are all 2560x1440 displays at reasonable cost. A 2560x1600 display is obsurdely expensive, like $1200+.

1080p is fine, though personally I want either the HP or the Dell, once I save up. $700+...

Anyway, how do you say top of the line and list GPU like 6770?? That is mid range. Plus, 7000 series is out. Check out a 7850 or 7870... beastly cards. The 7870 is $350 and faster than a 6970.

Yeaa yeaaa yeaaaaa. An i5 OC'd is top of the line, a 6870 in xfire is considerably top, and I was highly considering the 6970. It's only $320 if I'm lucky. I do know what I'm talking about, just not resolutions.
