Why hasn't or when is Newegg going to lower their prices to anything close to the projected prices, for AMD Athlon X2's. June 27th?????

I think that its funny you see all over the net that the prices are supposed to be dramatically lower but I can't see or find these drops. I see small but not huge drops in cost. It would be nice to get and X2 5000+ for around $350.

Whats going on with AMD??? Should they have bought ATI??? Dont know, but i've always been an Nvidia guy. Hopefully this doesn't hurt their working relationship. Thanks

This is where I purchased all of my computer products http://www.directron.com/index.html and never had a problem. I can't wait for the big price drops, I'm going to upgrade from a 3800 x2 to a FX-60
It will be a big upgrade for me. I know that Intel has the fastest out with it's conroe right now but you can't see a real difference with the current game right now. I think AMD's fastest setup is well good enough anything out there right now!

Yesterday they had the 4600+ and some other processors at the original price and others like the 3800+ and 4200+ at the reduced price. That's what he was referring to I believe.

Yea but they haven't been dropped to the projected prices...might have to wait a little while. At least until Conroe is out.

They lowered the price of the Athlon 64 4800+ to 499 and Zipzoomfly a day later dropped to 490.

Has there been any firm confirmation about whether the FX60 is dropping or not?

Yeah, its apparently dropping to around $800, which is still far too expensive compared to the equivalent Conroe.

the problem with some of the higher end models such as the 4800+ and the 4400+ is that amd has so many already in stock that it is not willing to lose the money it originally paid for those processors. As soon as newegg runs out of the old stock and gets the new stock at the new price it will drop prices to normal levels. This is pretty much how it is with every online vendor. The vendors that do have amd products at the new price are all backordering the products because they do not actually have stock at the new price yet.

I hope that gives some good perspective as to whats going on

Yeah, when looking at newegg's site they had a mix of the lowered prices and orginal prices. They still dont have anything higher than a 4600+ either.

The backordering makes sense, they have to get the processers at the lower price before they can sell them at that price.

What do you think about the 4800+ and the 4600+? Is it worth the extra $50???

The extra cache of the 4800 will help with memory communication and be roughly as stated with the model number about 200mhz faster performance wise.

i decided to buy the 4800+ since im stuck with 939 so might as well upgrade to the best before prices get rediculous (you suck fx 60)
and then OC the 4800 to fx 60/ 62 speeds depending on how lucky i am 8)

oh yeah and to kylewvu086's comment, definately buy the 4800. You will thank yourself later when that cache is actually helpful

It will probably be a while until conroe reaches it's projected level's as well. The sad thing about this is that it's the retailer's jacking up the prices while AMD and Intel are locked into the price war losing more money than they should be.

its actually a completely different situation. The vendors, amd, and intel are all losing money because of price drops. vendors especially because they bought the processors before prices dropped and now have to sell them at nearly half the price. Sucks for them.

Well either way around 300 is the maximum I will spend on individual computer components and this price reduction worked out perfectly or me. I have been wanting to go dual core for a while now. I was really hoping to get a FX60 but the 4800+'s cores are still 200mhz faster then my Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego, and 400mhz faster then my Socket 754 3400+ Clawhammer.

Yeah, users have definatly benefited from the price dops. Its almost a dream to ge a high end processer for half of what it cause two months ago. I think i'll go with the 4800+ then. It sounds like the benefit is worth the extra cash.

I was looking at the 5000+ but they are a little harder to get. tigerdirect has some in stock for $329.99 2.6 Ghz and 1MB L2 cash sounds quick. Still 329 is a big chunk of change to dish out.

What about the opteron, will it drop in price when the Itanium 2 comes out, even thought the "iTanic" 2 will probably be extremely expensive and only available from direct retailers like: Dell, and HP.
