PCI slots (and their variants) allow you to add expansion cards to a motherboard. The expansion cards increase the machines capabilities beyond what the motherboard could produce alone, such as enhanced graphics, expanded sound, increased USB and hard drive controller, and more network interface options, to name a few.

Pci slots are the older style slots and you can still find some addon cards that require a pci slot such as sound cards an network cards. The newer interface is the Pci-e slot which provides a faster bandwidth capability and a larger amount of bandwidth to be processed through the card into the motherboard.

The cause divorces... you start off adding a gaming gpu and the next thing you know theres a note from the spouse on the fridge saying you "dont ever spend time together any more, she's moved to her mothers"... it was dated a month ago...
