Hey there, I'm planning on building a new computer. I'll be using it to do school work and play games. I don't play games on ultra-high settings or anything though, so the highest end graphics is not necessary.

Approximate Purchase Date: In a couple weeks

Budget Range: About $1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming > Programming > Watching Videos > Other school stuff

Parts Not Required: I don't need any software, probably don't need a keyboard or mouse

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference

Country: Canada

Parts Preferences: I don't have preferences, don't really know the pros and cons of the different makers.

Overclocking: Maybe, if necessary

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: The higher the better, nothing ridiculous though.

Additional Comments: Don't really need anything special looking. Not too many LEDs would be nice, I don't want something glowing and flashing. Visually appealing but not ostentatious is the name of the game I guess.

If you are from Canada, and you are not looking for a Super High end Pc. You Should Check this website

http://www.ncix.ca/

They are Really Really Proffesionals, They have one of the Best Warrantys of all Canada, Home Service.
This is their yourtube channel they do reviews, custom pcs, and reviews of allot of Hardware.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRQqdpMWoQQ&list=UUXuqSBlHAE6Xw-yeJA0Tunw&index=2&feature=plcp

If you want to Do it yourself then you should be looking for

An I5 2400, 8 (2x4) 1600 DDR3 Ram, A Z77 1155 Motherboard Atx, A Corsair, Antec, Seasonic Psu 600W, Gtx 550 ti , a 60 Gb SSD sata III as Main Os Drive and a 1Tb HDD and the Case of your Choice.

based on those priorities, here's a build you can use as a starting point.

I'm going to stay under $900 to allow for the markup on parts in Canada. You have my sympathies.

*the hyperthreading won't help with gaming, but as a coder, you may wand this. esp. if/when you get into parallel programming. There doesn't seem to be much benefit in the 3770k, assuming you can even get your hands on one.

$898 total ($878 after rebates). hopefully it's not so much more expensive in Canada to put you over $1k.

If you want stonger gaming performance, you can drop down to a 2500k and bump the video card to a 7850, and you'll be at the same price, but the 6850 will play all current games on medium+ settings @1920x1080 with good frame rates.

Let me explain this build for you
I kept in mind that you game and program so:

I got you the FX-8120 8 Cores because of programming and its excellence in gaming. You only need 4 gbs for gaming so the extra 4gb is for programming. The graphics card will do REALLY well.

The processor is a really good overclocker and with the Asus board you can overclock really nicely. Pick up a Cool master hyper plus for 34$ if you want to overclock.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

It should still be within your range under 1000$.

The case is really nice and good ventilation.

Finally the PSU is really nice. And to the guy above 7850 is MUCH better than the 560 Ti.

If you could add which province you are in that would be useful.

If you are out west, use Memory Express. They have an incredible price match policy and a lot of stores to save on shipping.

If you are in Ontario I would suggest Canada Computers.

You'll need a monitor included in your budget correct?

What's the build total with shipping? I noticed some of your prices didn't match what was on newegg so I was just curios as to the shipping cost added onto the total cost of that build.

If you can tell me what province I can help you with the shipping.

Oh and about the cost prices error...It's a bit late here so I made some mistakes but I assure you it's 956$ rounded up.

Shipping without the the dvd burner is free shipping. The dvd burner is 7.24 shipping.
