Hi...
I'm in the process of building my first system. I was just wondering, is there a diff. in the diff. type of brands of memory?
• Crucial
• Viking
• Edge Memory
• Kingston

Has anyone had any bad or good experience with Crucial memory? I'm building a Athlon 1.3 or 1.4 system, haven't made up my mind yet.
Are there any brands i should stay away from, what are some of the standars i should look for?

Thanks for any responce...

Crucial, Viking, and Kingston are pretty good, I've never heard of Edge Memory.

Usually I stick to Crucial and Mushkin because these seem to be the best. Crucial is usually the least expensive if you buy it over the internet. Mushkin you can also get on the Internet at www.mushkin.com.

Mushkin memory is good for overclocking since some of it is guaranteed at higher FSB speeds than normal memory (such as PC150 instead of PC133).

As far as what to look for, if you get regular SDRAM make sure it is PC133 with a CAS Latency of 2 (not 3, 3 is slower). You will also see this written as CL2.

If you get DDR-SDRAM, PC2100 is the faster, PC1600 is the slower. Also try to get CL2 on these as well, although it is harder to get in CL2 than regular SDRAM. You will probably see mostly CL 2.5 for DDR-SDRAM.

Hope this helps...

I completely agree with the last post. I recommend Crucial for price-performance balance and Mushkin for guaranteed higher performance.
