just curious if my system is bottlenecking.i have just bought an xfx 6870 hd 2gb but only a phenom x2 black edition cpu in rift my framerates hardly went up with the new gpu maybe around 20fps-30fps although it dont spike or lag anymore it still gets choppy at times when theyres alot goin on.did i expect to much out of the card?, or do i need an 8 core and a 9 series board?

Solution
No you don't need a 9 series board, because the northbridge hardly matters for gaming performance, except in some rare situations.

A 8 core CPU won't do any performance increase for games, but would accelerate video encoding and encryption tasks.
Modern games rarely use up to 4 cores and are probably still just using 2 cores.

What was your ancient video card? If it was not very bad and wasn't cheap, it may be normal to just have 20fps increase.
A 30fps increase however, is somewhat normal for graphic card updates.

Hope it helps! :)

the system is
CPU:AMD Phenom II X2
MOBO:MSI 870-G45 Motherboard - AMD 770
PSU:Coolmax VL-600B Power Supply - 600-Watt
the old card was a XFX Radeon HD 5670 Video Card - 1024MB DDR5 the new one is the 2gb xfx 6870HD
RAM:12Gb KINGSTON hyper X blu ddr3

ive been gaming at 1920x1080 on a 27' samsung.
id like to note i have turned up the graphics with supersampling and more spell detail with the new card. where as before the video settings were set without the supersampling and alot less shadow and spell detail.im thinkin maybe i should crossfire 2 of the cards? or what are some thoughts on a quad or six core? ive also heard rift is heavy on cpu usage. any thoughts help thanks

lol op said his frames barely went up, like 20-30 fps..................a 6870 isnt a 1080 resolution killing card, and its barely acceptable for 1680x1050. then you want to throw in AA and shadow/spell/sprite detail.....

i think you may be the bottleneck in your system.

also about the FPS thing with the old card theyd hang around 15-25fps with the lower settings and the new 6870 with higher settings they are around 20-30fps so it got a little more stable and a very slight increase in framerate
